Our Matt gets acquainted with The Big Helga
Written on 22 October 2009
Rubber Stamp Ambassador and Grand Central Hotel Manager Matt Coorey tell’s us of his recent trip to Matilda Bay to meet The Big Helga…
“I was lucky enough to be flown to Melbourne on Wednesday for the launch of Matilda Bays new craft beer.
We were taken on a tour of the Matilda Bay GARAGE BREWERY by master brewer Scott Vincent before being led to an authentic Oktoberfest marquee for a German themed feast.
Whilst devouring our Bratwurst we were introduced to THE BIG HELGA courtesy of Helga, a 6 foot blond who flew in from Germany to oversee the proceedings!
The Big Helga is a German Munich Style Dry Lager. It is on tap at Grand Central Hotel now and drinkers should get in soon to appreciate this fantastic new addition to the already very credible and unique beers from Matilda Bay.”
ABOUT THE BEER…
Strong-bodied, well-rounded and full of character, a nod to the Munich Oktoberfest lagers, Big Helga is Matilda Bay’s newest brew in an on-going journey of discovery and exploration of the world’s greatest beer styles.
Big Helga is brewed with malted barley and noble hops. It is kettle-hopped and after being lovingly nurtured during fermentation, it is then dry-hopped producing a fruity and fresh aromatic lager.
Big Helga is perfectly suited to BBQ gourmet sausages (German of course) but she also loves curries, tapas, the occasional Thai salad and has even been known to go off with some Mexican … she is nothing if not versatile.
